Always - #LikeAGirl Campaign
Who is the target audience?
The target audience for the 'Like a Girl Campaign' by Always is young women aged from around 10-35. It's allows people to understand the stereotypes of 'a girl' and how they act in everyday life in comparison to boys/men. ‘Always’ asked if we limit girls and tell them what they should or shouldn’t be and if we box them into expected roles – a shocking 72% feel society limits them, especially during puberty.
What is the message being conveyed?
The message being conveyed is to boost girl’s/women’s confidence and change the meaning of ‘like a girl’ (which is the name of the campaign) from an insult to more or a compliment. The message being conveyed is by having young girls and women express their feelings and opinions in the advert to make the audience question society and if they are boxed into certain roles?
Is the message convincing, if the message is yes/no please explain?
The message is very convincing as they make sure they used girls and women of all ages, race and shapes and sizes. By seeing how young girls feel about puberty and their cycle makes us sympathise with them, as us as the audience, know they shouldn’t be growing up into a world where they can’t be confident about growing up. Therefore, the campaign is successful because it helps build women’s confidence and allows them to feel good about themselves which is the aim. In the video they did this by the girls and women knocking over boxes with words written on them. It connotes them being strong and independent and can beat the stereotypes that are put on them in society.
